Any rugged adventurer dreams of taking a road trip through the beautiful natural landscape of Alberta and British Columbia and into Alaska. In the following post, Dan Volitich discusses taking his dream trip -- an extended 60-day road trip through Alaska.
Imagine: You’re driving though some of the most pristine country in the Northern Hemisphere. The countryside is breathtaking; you pass crystalline waters bordered by lush, deep-green forests. You’ll encounter majestic wildlife frolicking through the flora while you explore awe-inspiring glaciers and fish the glittering waters of Prince William Sound. Yes – a tour through Alaska sounds like 60 days of heaven on Earth!
As you might have inferred by the previous, somewhat florid, paragraph, it has always been a dream of mine to take the RV up through Canada and into Alaska. I love travel, and I especially love the privacy and adventure of lengthy road trips. While relaxing on a tropical beach certainly has its charm, you don’t really have that same feeling of accomplishment as when you’ve successfully trekked across none-too-forgiving terrain. (Not that I’m John Muir, or anything – but driving an Airstream 250 miles per day has its own set of challenges!)
An RV trip isn’t for the faint of heart – driving hundreds and even thousands of miles through unfamiliar country can be taxing on the body and spirit, even when you’re an intrepid traveler. If you’re planning to make the drive up to and through the great state of Alaska, be safe, be prepared, and – most importantly – have fun!
